Unlocking Voices Conference 2023

In June 2023, we hosted an RPM conference with Alex Hopwood (Transforming Education for Autism) in tribute to Christopher Finnes (1998-2023) who was passionate about unlocking the voices and potential of  non, minimally and unreliably speaking autistic people.

We are excited to now bring the session recordings right into your home or office, paving the way for a deeper understanding of what non, minimally and unreliable speakers are capable of! Available to buy now!

Meet our presenters:

Sue Finnes began learning about RPM in 2011 to help her non speaking son, Christopher. She is passionate about helping other families unlock their children's potential and has created many free learning resources. She set up an international parent support group in 2013 and a UK non-for-profit in 2014. She has spoken at UK conferences and at the international HALO RPM conference in 2017.

Alex Hopwood, from Transforming Education for Autism (TEfA), brings a blend of expertise and practical know-how to the field. As a qualified teacher who mastered the highest level of RPM training in 2014, she has since honed her skills through extensive work with hundreds of families and adapted practices for the UK. Alex's presentations are not only rich in theoretical understanding but also grounded in real-world experience, illustrated through engaging examples and compelling videos.

"Sue and Alex are excellent presenters who explain things in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. The conference comprised a rich combination of explaining key concepts, tips and advice, practical video demonstration, insights from students and updates on academic research."

"Marie and I were delighted to attend and take part in the UK Unlocking Voices Conference in June 2023. The event provided a great insight into everything from the basics to the nuances of RPM and included lots of practical advice. Alex and Sue's extensive knowledge and passion for RPM is inspiring. As guest participants in a Q&A with Sue we were happy to impart some of our experiences over our 2 year journey so far. Other parents and guest speakers helped to enrich the perspective of RPM. A highlight for us was seeing an expert 'RPMer' Fiacre in action and hearing about the latest scientific findings from the research project at Cambridge University"

"It was an incredibly useful day, learning new ways to make RPM work for our son and meeting other parents and RPM users themselves. It is impossible to overstate the importance of RPM in our son's life. He had had no meaningful voice for over a decade. Suddenly he has plenty to say and the means to say it. It is life changing and all non verbal people should have access to it.
